Variety Cover Ads mean WB is actually going to try and get a Best Pic nomination.

This morning I started noticing the cover of Variety and the other Hollywood trades covered in “For Your Consideration Ads” purchased by Warner Bros.

Now I had always heard the film was a longshot, but the fact that WB was willing to back it as their main contender made me completely rethink it.  Here’s the ads:

If WB is supporting the film this seriously, they must believe the film has a reasonable shot.  That means it’s all in the court of public opinion with Academy Voters now.

    I’ve also seen ads showing Heath Ledger for Best Supporting actor. I think that’s a lock but hopefully it doesn’t make people not support the film in the other categories.
