Golden Globes snubs Dark Knight!

Unbelieveable snub from the Globes this morning:

Nominations for the Golden Globes were announced this morning, and while Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker earned him a nod in the Best Supporting Actor category, “The Dark Knight” itself was conspicuously absent from the list of projects nominated for awards. Over at MTV’s Movies Blog, you can read the full list of Golden Globe nominations.
So what does this mean for “The Dark Knight” and its award campaign? The absence of Christopher Nolan’s record-breaking blockbuster is certainly a surprise, given that the only film to do better at the box office, “Titanic,” cleaned up in Golden Globe nominations back in 1997.
Not only did “Titanic” receive a nomination for Best Film in 1997 (a category it later won), it received nominations in seven other categories — including Best Original Score, where “The Dark Knight” has had its share of obstacles. “The Dark Knight” is currently ranked just behind “Titanic” as the top-grossing film of all time, and the gap between the two films is expected to narrow significantly when the film is re-released to theaters next month.
Interestingly enough, Ledger’s nomination for “The Dark Knight” pits him against another actor celebrated for his role in a comics-inspired blockbuster this year. Robert Downey Jr., who owned the role of Tony Stark in “Iron Man,” also received a nod for his supporting role in “Tropic Thunder.”
However, while many have celebrated the success of the “The Dark Knight” and “Iron Man” this year as a sign that films based on comics have finally found mainstream acceptance, one has to wonder whether the Golden Globe nominations indicate that the accolades both films have received thus far are just the first step of many toward critical approval of comics as source material — or if the rumors of “The Dark Knight’s” demise have been greatly exaggerated, and the Academy Awards will correct the Golden Globes’ mistakes in February.

The golden globes are a joke:

” As everyone in Hollywood knows, the glitzy annual ceremony watched by millions of people is a con on the viewing public. The decision to cancel it offers a golden opportunity to clean up the Golden Globes once and for all.
The Globes have long been the entertainment industry’s dirty little secret. At the heart of the con is the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., the tiny, cliquish group of foreign entertainment journalists – and I use each of those terms liberally – whose votes determine the winners.
The members of the association are not, generally speaking, film experts (like the people who judge the National Society of Film Critics awards) nor are they members of the creative community (like those who give out the Oscars). They’re not even representatives of prominent foreign publications, like Le Monde or the Guardian or Haaretz.
Only a handful are full-time journalists; the rest are freelancers for mostly obscure publications, and some are simply hanging on for the parties and movie stars. To maintain their status in the organization, they need only write four articles a year.”

The Golden Globes are a meaningless joke.

They nominated a performer IN blackface (Tropic Thunder) but didn’t actually nominate any black actors this year. Nice work Globes!

Dammit. I know the globes are a joke, but a couple of nods would have still been a good break for TDK

It’s always hilarious to watch the Golden Globes try to figure out what the fuck they’re about. What a clusterfuck.

How lame. The Dark Knight is the year’s best movie. People really don’t see that just because it’s a movie about Batman (Superhero movie). This film had an excelent story with great pacing, fantastic acting, great action and no doubt the best score for a film this yere. It’s also very interesting to watch over and over again, which everyother nominee, seems to lack.

Titanic won all those golden globe awards because it was based on a historical event and it was a romance. Whereas The Dark Knight is considered by some as a mere comic book story, and therefore not worthy. A comic book story that has wide appeal and has broken box office records! I say that it is more than worthy!

This is some baby back bullshit. i mean all the work nola puts in, all the way he devised to use the IMAX camera and give us a kickass film, the loss of a great actor due to his dedication to a role, best batman ever (and more)… and a backwards aging man, a reader, some fat priest, and dumb ass “i am not a crook” takes all the awards. i mean buttons might have been a god one as well but come on… why are the artsy films the ones that always win… cant wait till all the biased old people die and maybe well have a better chance.
