Fans are mailing Joker cards to Variety on Dec. 17th
by Blair on Dec.12, 2008, under NEWS
These cards have already gone out today according to one of our supporters, Phillip who emailed me. But the BIG push is planned for Dec. 17th.

Here’s the plan Dave Knetter in our Facebook group has come up with:
Dark Knight fans!! Listen up. TDK needs your help.
“Dark Campaign - Support the Dark Knight for 2008 Oscars”, here on Facebook, is campaigning to get Heath and TDK an Oscar. The first thing is to help TDK get nominated.
It is simple;
1. find a deck of cards
2. remove the joker card
3. with a red pen, somewhere on the card write:“Why So Serious?”
For Your Consideration
Heath Ledger - Best Supporting Actor
The Dark Knight - Best Picture of 2008
http://DarkCampaign.com4. mail it to:
Variety Magazine
5900 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 3100
Los Angeles, CA 90036***** DO THIS ON DEC 17th *****
I think this is a terrific idea. Anyone else out there want to try this? Sure it’s a bit weird… Why so serious?

I gotta go look for a joker card in this house! It is just what the Joker would have done.

Variety? Really? I don’t think Variety has anything to do with the Oscar votes. You would be better off mailing these to Academy members, and then getting fan donations to take out an ad in Variety magazine. A “For Your Consideration” ad that stresses that it’s from the fans and not the studio. I think this tweaked strategy will have more of an effect.

I’m doing this.

The plan is to send this to Variety so that they, being a publication that a lot of Academy members read, may run a story on it.
Imagine if Variety considers this newsworthy enough to run a front page story. Gold, pure gold, I say.
I hope more people follow my lead and burn half of the card. I think we should stress the movie AS A WHOLE more than just Ledger. Heath is a lock for a BSA nom - we need to make sure TDK is on every Academy member’s radar for BEST PICTURE.

You bet your ass we’re doing this
So we mail them on Dec. 17 or do we have them postmarked by then?
December 14th, 2008 on 7:47 pm
There are 2 Jokers in each deck of cards, so send 1 to Variety and the other to an Academy Member so we get the best of both worlds. Seriously though, forget the haters, let’s get as many TDK fans to get involved and force Variety to write something up about us and our passion for this film.

Do not mail them to Academy members, all it will do i annoy the members and make it even less likely that they will nominate TDK for Best Picture.
December 15th, 2008 on 12:20 am
Yeah, don’t mail these to any Academy members. We’re only trying to influence those that are influenced by media coverage. If an Academy member cares only about his/her own opinion and not about ‘buzz’ then something like this, if seen first hand, will only annoy them.

Great idea! I’m doing it count me in.

I mentioned Mailing the cards to the Academy a few days ago. Obviously people out there think it is worth the try, and effort. At the very least the Academy will become aware of two things. 1.) people do pay attention to the Nominations and the OSCARS. and 2.) That there are people both young and old that genuinely care about movies, and their effect on people.
Phillip, Blair, and everyone else out there…. what you created is admirable, we all back you, just believe in what you created to go the extra mile to make it happen.
A cover story would be nice. In fact, as popular as this is so far, it is bound to happen. This already showed up on YAHOO! so magazines are not far behind. I am also believing that by now, Christopher Nolan himself has caught wind of this, and I am sure he is appreciative of our passion for this Masterpiece.
Why So Serious?
