Another step closer to Oscar glory for the Dark Knight…

`Dark Knight’ bags WGA screenplay nomination

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Add writing to Batman’s bag of tricks. “The Dark Knight” has earned a nomination for best adapted screenplay from the Writers Guild of America.

The Batman blockbuster is competing alongside the romantic fantasy “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” the Roman Catholic drama “Doubt,” the Richard Nixon saga “Frost/Nixon” and the street-orphan tale “Slumdog Millionaire.”

This is really an unprecedented nomination as I believe this is the first superhero film to be nominated for writing by the Writers Guild of America. Consider this a big step in the final push.

Great news today, especially with Wally Pfister getting the ASC nod for cinematography as well. Let’s hope that tomorrow follows with same suit with a DGA Nomination!

Wonderful, wonderful news. TDK’s screenplay is outstanding: multilayered, surprising, poetic, profound. Who could appreciate all its merits fully if not the practitioners of the craft? While marvelling at the film’s collection of wonderful performances it’s so easy to attribte them mainly to the masterful acting skills of the entire cast. Yet iconic roles are not created in a vacuum: the writing has to come first. Chris, Jonathan, David - congratulations :)

Batman is not a “superhero.” The Dark Knight is not a “superhero movie.”

Just an fyi, that’s all. One of the main reasons why Batman is so relatable is the fact that he is not a superhero. He’s just a regular guy with vengeance on his mind that has the means to do something about it (just like Tony Stark/Iron Man). If you cut him, he bleeds. If you kill him, he dies. The Dark Knight is a ‘comic book adaptation,’ yes, but a ’superhero movie’ it is not.

TDK seems to be gaining steam among the critics in these guilds. Happy to see Wally Pfister get the nom for Cinematography. If Christopher Nolan can get a DGA nom, it’s all but dead-set Batman will get a Best Picture Oscar nom.

Cinema Audio Society just nominated The Dark Knight… This nomination resembles the Best Sound Editing in the Oscars… check incontention.com and awardsdaily.com

This is going to be an interesting and exciting race!

    THIS JUST IN!!!!!

At the Peoples Choice Awards that just aired, The Dark Knight won ALL five of the awards it was nominated for.

    Awards Won:
    Favorite Cast
    Superhero
    Action Movie
On Screen Match-up of Batman Vs. Joker
    Favorite Movie

Upon recieving the award, here is what Mr. Wayne himself had to say:

“Thank you very, very much,” said Bale, flanked by Aaron Eckhart and director Christopher Nolan, upon accepting the evening’s top award. “And on behalf of all of the cast from the movie, thank you very much to the fans. Here’s to Heath, thank you.”

My Friends, This is a happy day for everyone. You should all be proud. No matter what happens from here during Awards season, you made a difference. I applaud you all.

lol people’s choice awards, like they have any credit.

The Producer’s Guild and the Writer’s Guild are actually REALLY strong indicators that the momentum has shifted away from the bullshit of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and back towards giving credit to a film that truly deserves it.

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has nominated Christopher Nolan for Outstanding Directoria Achievment in Feature Film for 2008. The other nominees are: Ron Howard, Danny Boyle, David Fincher, & Gus Van Sant.

As of today, The Dark Knight has received nominations by: The Producers Guild of America, Writers Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, American Society of Cinematographers; and it’s still on the run for make-up and visual effects.

    GO THE DARK KNIGHT!!!!

Eventhough People’s Choice does not matter in the Oscars, it matters to a lot of people who really believe the power of this movie.

Way to go Dark Knight… I can sense “The Departed” rising here…

THE DARK NIGHT HAS THE DGA NOD!

Lovely! I was wondering when the writing would show up for an award. By far some of the best writing. Every little word is part of a bigger picture. That’s what I love about this movie. You actually had to pay attention to everything and if you stopped, you would lose track of what was happening.

I have been a huge Batman fan for a good portion of my life and I have to say, they wrote it EXACTLY like it is in the comics, yet nothing like I expected.

Congrats to the writers! I hope they win!

Kristin, you a spot on. The writing of the script is just as important as the visuals, in fact it’s the heart of the movie. And this movie had a lot to say, and it was said beautifully. I too would like to see the script writers recognised. As for the Peoples Choice Awards, while they may not be as important or prestigious like the industry awards, I feel they personally that they matter. Because it was the people, the cinema goers themselves who voted. To the hard working fellas that put this website together, I wish to congratulate you for a fine job. Here’s to the Oscars! THE DARK KNIGHT TO WIN!!!

Great screenplay. Absolutely solid. It can win this and the Oscar!!

I hope MTV movie awards will vindicate TDK with most nominations and wins.

    Dark Knight reigns supreme!!!
